Glyphmail Guardian

There is no doubt that having a way for visitors to contact you through your website is a valuable and important tool. Simply posting an email address (or a directory of email addresses) on your site, however, is not the best solution. Yes, publishing your email address online is easy, but you are then handing your email address every spammer in the world. Their email address harvesting software is constantly roaming the Internet collecting addresses from web pages. That's why we developed a better solution: Glyphmail Guardian.

What is Glyphmail Guardian?

Glyphmail Guardian is an email system we have developed that keeps your email address hidden from would-be spammers, while still allowing your website's visitors to contact you easily.

How does Glyphmail Guardian work?

Below is how a typical email link appears on a web page:

To send me an email, click here.

Even though you cannot see the email address on the page, email harvesting software can easily add this address to spam lists. This is because the harvesting programs do not see the page the same way that people do. Like you web browser, they read the page's HTML source code, which contains the email address they seek. In fact, this email link took only 7 days to begin getting spam. (The email address for this example is a random mashing of keys “pfhnngopepwfujgiopwkrf” at glyphmail.com.)

In order to avoid publishing your email address for the world to see, we have developed the Glyphmail Guardian system that allows website visitors to enter a message to you that is then forwarded to any email address you choose — without making that email address available to spammers.

When the visitor clicks the "Send E-mail" button in the pop-up window, his or her message will be forwarded to the recipient's chosen email address. In the recipient's inbox, the email will be marked as from "Website" with the subject line "Email From Website Visitor". The system also sends a confirmation email to the visitor so that he or she knows the message has been sent.

In addition to protecting your email address, Glyphmail Guardian also ensures that messages from your website's visitors pass safely through your own spam filters. This can provide valuable new contacts, as well as useful information about how new visitors are finding you.

How much does Glyphmail Guardian cost?

Nothing. Glyphmail Guardian is not a separate product. It's just a different approach to the way we publish your contact information online. We believe that the safety of your email address is important, and we've worked hard to develop a system that is both effective and easy to use.

What else can I do to cut down on the amount of spam I get?

  • Don't use generic email addresses, such as sales@domain.com or info@domain.com. Spammers routinely send to a dictionary of standard and popular addresses for any given domain.
  • Never reply to spam email to complain or unsubscribe. This just lets the spammers know that they found a valid address, and the amount of spam you get will only increase.
  • Never post your email address in online forums, chat rooms or blog comments.
